Meet The Rhodesians · 1912 - 1980
Rhodesia people were unique and they did have their own vocabulary which was, at times, a mixture of several languages.
Bill Watt has kindly made a available to ORAFs a booklet which he had amongst his treasures.
ORAFs has added to our memories of ORAFs - most of used these words and I guess some still do?
ORAFs records its thanks to Bill, the authors and publishers of this booklet.
Sit back and enjoy.

Tony Smith Writes:-
What a great article! The "Lexicographer" was none other than my French teacher at AW! What a great guy - he let me smoke his pipe in class one day to "cure" my toothache!!! Quite a character I can tell you!

Joy Lambie Writes:-
This is so wonderful.
Makes me so homesick for the good ole Rhodie days. We are so very, very blessed
To have grown up in that era

Jim Higgs (Canada) Writes:-
Many thanks for this highly enlightened information, which at last legitimizes my vocabulary - I have had times when, here in frozen Canada, my kids have gone to school and asked for "muti " if they were ill, and received blank stares from the ignorant people around them who so sorely lacked a proper education. Kind of like trying to corner a f*rt in a rondavel.
Great stuff for the memory bank!

Marlene (Western Australia) writes:-
Fantastic - brought back so many memories. We were indeed so very very fortunate and probably didn't even realise it at the time. Does make one homesick for the good ol' days. Thanks so much for sharing.

Marlene i think you hit the nail on the head with your comment regarding not realising it at the time. What precious, precious times they were and what wonderfull people too. If only...........

Oh yes, what a time we had, what a wonderfull time. I only left 5 years ago and saw with watering eyes the decay of our once beautiful and wonderful land. Thank you so much for the memory....

David, I admire your staying power.I think it would have killed me to have watched the cancer grow!I sadly left in 1980.
As a true born Rhodersian, I only pray and hope that one day that land that we grew up in will return to some form of normality.I can only thank all my friends and aquantances over those special years for the wonderful memories and times that I still ponder over during the odd quite moment alone. They are surely irreplacable.I will always be proud to be a Rhodesian, we where a breed of our own in all respects, and proudly so.
