2007 YHS Reunion

Chapter 11

Dancing All Night

After we enjoyed a buffet dinner in the Fuji room....the dancing started. Music was played by a D.J. (another military brat). For me....when the dancing starts....all I want to do is dance! I try to set up my dance partner’s way ahead of time, so I can dance the night away. My Dave always tells me that he can’t dance too long, because of his sciatic nerve. So I always tell him, “Dance all you want, but don’t wear yourself out...so you can dance the last dance with me!" The last dance is the most romantic dance of the evening, as we dance cheek to cheek with our sweetheart....

I will never forget the first time Dave experienced sciatica pain. It was normal day, and the next day (11/28/2003) was my birthday. When we opened our eyes the next day, Dave was in so much pain he could not get out of bed.  He was later diagnosed with a slipped disc.  If he sits too long or dances too much, his sciatic nerve will act up.  The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body....the pain starts from nerve roots in the spinal cord in the low back extending to the buttock area and down the lower limb.

I danced so much that my feet began to swell....but that didn’t stop me.  However when the dance was over....I could barely walk. The next day, I had two large blisters on my foot and I was in extreme pain!  Since that time I have had foot surgery, and now I am ready to dance my feet off again.....

When my son, Edward, heard that our daughter, Bridget, would be attending the reunion....a frown crossed his face and he asked his sister “Why do you want to go to Mom’s reunion?” After the reunion, we took our son, Edward & his wife Dee, out to dinner where I talked endlessly about the reunion. Dee said, “I want to go to the next reunion! With a shocked look on his face, Edward asked his wife, “Do you want to go to Vegas, we can go anytime....but not to the reunion!” Dee answered, “No....I want to go to the reunion!” The look on my son’s face was priceless....and I laughed my head off.

When Mike Skidmore 1969/OK learned that Bridget was my daughter he said, “I thought she looks young to be an alumni!” Many thanks....to all the Warriors who took my daughter out on the dance floor. And how sweet of Dan Iki 1963/HI to give my daughter dance lessons…..thank you Dan.

At every reunion they always play the Bob Seger song, “Old Time Rock & Roll”. And....who could ever forget (the young) Tom Cruise dancing in his underwear to this song in the movie, “Risky Business!” This dance floor always gets crowded when this song is playing. Oh yes....we all like that old time rock & roll....

Bob Seger

Old Time Rock And Roll

Just take those old records off the shelf

I sit and listen to 'em by m'self

Today's music ain't got the same soul

I like that old time rock and roll

Don't try to take me to a Disco

You'll never even get me out on the floor

In 10 minutes I'll be late for the door

I like that old time rock and roll

(Chorus)

Still like that old time rock and roll

The kinda music just soothes the soul

I reminisce about the days of old

With that old time rock and roll

Don't wanna hear 'em play a Tango

I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul

There's only one sure way to get me to go

Start playin' old time rock and roll

Call me a relic call me what'cha will

Say I'm old fashioned say I'm over the hill

Today's music ain't got the same soul

I like that old time rock and roll

(Chorus)

(Chorus)

(Chorus)

(Chorus)

Still like that old time rock and roll
