Listening to my mother “sing read” "Over in the Meadow" to me is my first memory that I have of literacy. I was about three when she would read and sing aloud the book to me, usually in my room before bedtime. I was in preschool at the time. I couldn’t actually read myself but I remember following along with the pictures. Looking at the pictures of the animals and their mothers with my own mother, made the experience very positive and special. I think back to this moment and feel a certain comfort and warmth. Last year while at Head Start, the teacher read/sang the children this book and I immediately smiled. This book is one I would like to read and sing with my own children some day.
