The Gathering Ireland 2013

Grace Kelly became a popular actress in the 1950s starring in movies such as Dial M for Murder, To Catch a Thief and The Swan. She married Prince Rainier III of Monaco, with whom she had three children, in 1956. She was born in Philadelphia in 1929.

Grace Kelly expressed a deep love of performance at a young age. In addition to participating in school plays and community productions, she occasionally modeled with her mother and sister. While attending Stevens School, a small private high school in Philadelphia, she continued to dream about acting. The arts held a prominent place in the Kelly family. Her uncles Walter C. Kelly, a vaudevillian performer, and George Kelly, a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, both had a huge affect on her. It was George who later encouraged his niece to pursue a full-time acting career, mentoring her through her rise in Hollywood.

She later married Prince Ranier of Monaco and had a family beofre her tragic death as a result of a car accident.

Her family cmae from County Mayo, Ireland which is located on the west coast of Ireland in the province of Connacht, had a populaiton at the time of the Great Famine of almost half a million. The haemorrhage of emigration in the past century and a half has reduced the population to a little over one fifth of this figure. But emigration has generated a Mayo Diaspora which has resulted in millions of people world-wide who can trace their ancestry back to County Mayo. In recent years there have been an increasing number of people eager to discover more about their Mayo Roots.

The Gathering is encouraging all the dispora to follwo their roots and come dance in Ireland!!!
