My Story......as much as I want to remember!

by Camilla Jackson

Hi everyone. My name is Camilla Smith Jackson born April 2, 1947 in West Point, Troup County, GA. My parents were Charles Clifford Smith and Myrtle Waldrep Smith. I have one brother Travis Grant Smith born August 11, 1936 in Roanoke, AL. We moved quiet a bit but didn't go far. We lived in Shawmut when I was born but moved to Randolph County when I was around 2 or 3. Some where in those years we lived in 3 other locations in the Valley.Daddy bought a farm about 6 miles west of Roanoke off highway 22. We moved back to Plant City and I started first grade at Shawmut. Within less than 3 weeks we moved back to the house outside of Roanoke. I started first grade at Wadley and got to ride a real school bus for the first time. I rode a bus in Shawmut but it wasn't a school bus and we had to pay a dime to ride.
Some of the kids walked home and I decided one day I would do the same. I thought I would never get home. I had scratches from briars and bushes but that was the least of my pain.
One day I spent my dime that was suppose to be to pay for riding the bus. The bus driver let me ride with a promise to bring his dime the next day. Needless to say I never did either of those things again.
