The Midwest Chinese-American Librarians Association was founded on March 31, 1973 in the Rosary College Graduate School of Library Science under the leadership of Dr. Tze-chung Li. It was the beginning of CALA Chinese American Librarians Association. So the current Midwest Chapter is the oldest Chapter in CALA and organized to best serve the interests of its members in 14 states of Midwest. Currently the MW Chapter has nearly a hundred members. The regular officers, elected by the chapter members are president, vice president/president elect, and treasurer. The secretary and the special committees, appointed by the incumbent president to serve the same length as the president, include those for program planning, membership, electronic publishing, nomination, public relations, special task forces and state contacts. The election usually takes place in spring of each year. The founding and earlier (Midwest Chapter) librarians include: Tze-chung Li, Ling-Ling Chang, Roy Chang, Robert P. Chen, Marian Chou, Ming-ming Kuo, Hwa-Wei Lee (member in 1978), Julie Su, Pei-ling Wu and Amanda Yu.
