Round the World in 18 Days

by Lauren Beavin

I have been fascinated by travel, geography, and culture since I was very young. I grew up reading a collection of my grandparents' old National Geographics, and dreamed about visiting the amazing places they described. I took my first international trip to Peru when I was 22 and visited Macchu Picchu. I had sailed and island-hopped around the Caribbean and seen the French Riviera and Paris by the time I took a trip around the world in 2006 with a dear friend.

This trip around the world in 18 days was a wondrous voyage in which I visited many places I've dreamed of all my life. We visited Australia, Asia, Europe, and can even say I've visited one city in Africa, Casablanca! I wanted to capture the experience while we traveled, so I took every opportunity to get online (which was not always simple) and post an entry. I met truly memorable people in my travels and had experiences that I never could have conceived of. Exploring the world gives one a deeper insight into humanity, its poverty and glory, and the extraordinary beauty that has been entrusted to us to care for.

I have had great support from the OurStory group, friends, and family and it is wonderful to share this with them. I will always keep traveling and adding great memories to the Timeline of my life.
