Amy Polumbo may have been crowned Miss New Jersey, but she’s more than just a pretty face. The twenty-two-year-old from Howell, New Jersey, is a senior at Wagner University, where she is working toward a major in theater and a minor in psychology. Amazingly, the Miss New Jersey competition was only the second pageant Amy had ever participated in. She will go on to represent the Garden State in the Miss America competition.
A talented singer and actress, Amy Polumbo has performed the National Anthem in various venues throughout New Jersey and New York. She recently played the part of Ariel in Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which she performed five to seven times a day at the MGM Studios in Florida. For the talent portion of the Miss New Jersey competition, Amy performed a song from the Broadway musical Little Women. She’s managed to accomplish all this even after muscular tension dysphonia, a voice condition that prevented her from singing for two years. This didn’t stop Amy Polumbo from taking the lead roles in many performances at the Premier Theatre Company in New Jersey, where she has played Maria in the production of West Side Story and the narrator in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. Amy has done some modeling work as well. She was the cover model for Parade magazine and has appeared in various advertisements for Shape hair salon.
At the pageant, Amy ran on the platform for Internet safety, and continues to strive to better educate Internet users about safety online. At Wagner, she counsels incoming freshmen about how to protect themselves on the Internet. As the national spokeswoman for i-SAFE, Incorporated, Amy speaks on topics of Internet safety, in the hopes of educating people from all walks of life—and especially younger users—from the risks and perils of the Internet.
